It looks like number of babies who are addicted to prescription drugs is on the rise, and has been on the rise for quite some time. It is not the infants fault, they are not able to make decisions yet, actually they are totally dependent on other people to feed them, and fully take care of them. So the mother is the one that has the addiction and then the baby just has to suffer the consequences. The White House Office on Drug Control Policy notes that this is the fastest-growing drug problem in the United States. Recently, in 2009 crack cocaine is no longer the leading cause of this and this should alarm us and we should take some sort of action to prevent this from becoming a bigger issue in the future.
It is understandable that mothers can have pain and suffering and need to take medications to help get relief. Sometimes the moms don’t stop taking them. It is really important to not go cold turkey when there is a little one in the womb. There has to be a strategy to slowly come off so that both are healthy. Doctors will be saving a lot of pain and suffering if this is done successfully, although this is much easier to write about and think about the right way than how difficult it is. Well, to end this all newborns are precious and deserve a chance at life, so if there are things that can be done to make that happen, great.
