Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has proven to be one of the most diverse actors in Hollywood. From the early days on 21 JumpStreet to his portrayal of swashbuckling and hilarious pirate Jack Sparrow, he has wowed us with his acting ability. The fact that he can take on such different roles and create lasting characters is truly an amazing feat. Many actors and actresses get pigeonholed and typecast, essentially playing the same type of character over and over. But not Mr. Depp – he continually has made it a point to take roles that allow him to prove again and again that he can’t be categorized.

Although there’s no denying his good looks, his fans also know that his appeal also lies in his inherent talent. Yes, he does make a great leading man in the romance genre. But his sense of comedic timing also puts him in the upper echelon of those who excel at comedy. And at the age of 51, it doesn’t seem as if he’s going to slow down any time soon. In fact, the latest news has him acting with his daughter in an upcoming comedy. Not bad for a guy who left school as a teenager to try his hand at being in a rock band but ended up finding his passion doing movies.

Surprisingly enough, his first movie was in the horror genre. Many kids from the 80s remember a movie called A Nightmare on Elm Street where the infamous Freddy Kreuger preyed on the suspecting in their sleep. He worked steadily for a few years after that, eventually landing the detective role in 21 Jump Street. It was that role that really catapulted him into stardom. It also gave him the freedom to choose roles that truly interested him. And that has been something else that fans adore about him. He tends to gravitate toward interesting characters and projects – no cookie cutter roles for him.

Having staying power and a long standing career in Hollywood isn’t easy. But there are a handful of people who have made it look that way and he seems to be one of them. And hopefully he will keep building on his accomplishments and choosing the off the cuff projects he seems to excel at for a very long time.
