If you have work out and still have small calves, it may not be your training. It might be due to genetics. Still, with the right training, the calf areas can grow and become stronger.
Most of us already know that our muscles growth does not happen during a workout, it grows during the recovery period as the fibers fuse back together. That’s why most trainers suggest that people rest between physical activity, whether it’s a session at the gym or running. Your body needs time to recover and this helps your muscle tissues to get stronger. And keep in mind that lifting weights doesn’t automatically lead to large muscles. For example, if you are looking to lose weight and don’t want to bulk up, cardiovascular activity is the way to go – and take it easy on the weights.
For those of you that do want to have a little extra muscle mass, the best way to do so is to go for the heavier weights. Repetitive motions via resistance training has proven to sculpt and tone muscle tissue and can completely change how a person looks and feels. Unfortunately, too many people just pay attention to the areas that are often the most visible – such as the upper body areas of the shoulders and arms.
Getting bigger calves means spending time on exercises that will directly enhance them. Doing this a few times a week can really help them become substantial. This also helps to eliminate the “uneven” body image that some people who lift weights face. It gives a person a more balanced appearance instead of that skinny leg look.
Although it is possible to tone and sculpt your body, let’s not forget that genetics, technique, and fuel all play large parts during the process. And if you make the commitment to go to the gym a few times per week, you’re moving in the right direction. But keep in mind that those calves might not grow the way you want them to. All you can do is make the decision to do the best you can and train smart.
